Over the weekend I checked out an awesome workshop from Aura Cacia, one of the leading essential oil companies. They had folks dabbling in the arts of handmade scrubs and facial mists, which was a blast, even though I’ve never given facial mists much thought at all.
Why pay for an artesian spray bottle of water, when you’ve got one at home?
I never understood the reason for a facial mist, but Aura Cacia demystified my assumptions.
Facial mist hydrates skin, lifts your mood, and at the end of the day, makes you feel really freaking fancy. And who doesn’t want to feel fancy?
Even better? It’s the easiest holiday gift to make, and completely customizable.
A facial mist may sound nauseatingly feminine, but they’re great for guys and gals alike.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Sanitized small spray bottle (preferably glass).
Distilled water. Don’t have distilled water? Be a good Boy Scout and boil some tap water.
24 drops of your 2 selected aromatherapy oils.
1/4 teaspoon sweet almond oil.
Fill your spray bottle 99% of the way with distilled water.
Add essential oil drops.
Add almond oil.
Close and shake bottle.
Mist face and feel fancy. Or give to your friends and family as this seasons fantastic bespoke gift.
While a facial mist sounds refreshing on a warm day, it is also the perfect vehicle for delivering the medical benefits of aromatherapy.
If you want a calming mist try a combination of lavender and peppermint.
If you’d prefer an uplifting spray, combine grapefruit and rose.
For a more purifying experience, try tea tree and eucalyptus.
The ancient art of aromatherapy is no joke, so use caution when handling essential oils, just because they smell nice doesn’t mean they will play nice with skin contact.
So, what are you waiting for?
Will facial mists make it on your holiday gift list this year? What other DIY’s will you try? Tell me about it in the comments!
Peace. Love. and Bobby Pins.
