I’m a sucker for eastern medicine. Whether it’s acupressure, acupuncture, gua sha, or aromatherapy, I’m a firm believer in alternatives to western medicine for good health and radiant beauty. So it’s my pleasure to announce my new partnership with Kirsten Cowan and her awesome company Angelica and Peony.
I recently had the pleasure of encountering the small medicinal beauty company Angelica and Peony–radiant beauty and health. It was love at first sniff.
Kirsten, an acupuncturist, started dabbling in beauty products a few years ago, when she couldn’t find a moisturizer that agreed with her skin and nose, her curiosity and hobby lead to the birth of Angelica and Peony.
I sat down with Kirsten this week for a show and sniff to check out her line, and it’s the bee’s knees.
She’s got everything from a gingerbread scented alternative to Tiger Balm to a goji berry lip balm that smells exactly like breakable chocolate oranges.
Everything in the Angelica and Peony collection is lightly scented with purpose.
Stemming from Chinese medicine, A and P’s ingredients are both medicinal and lightly fragrant. Unlike most natural or chemical laden beauty products, Cowan compounds hers with very small amounts of essential oils to prevent allergic reaction and overpowering scents. The results are subtle and dreamy.
For those more interested in treatments, she has a line of balms for various conditions, and my favorite: hair and beard oil. As an avid lover of facial hair and beards, I’ve sniffed a lot of beard oils in my day. And let me tell you–if I had a beard, I’d wear this stuff every damn day.
Her collection also includes three highly concentrated serums for various skin types.
Best of all? Knowing my intense love for Chinese Gua Sha, Kirsten gave me my own tiny spoon for Gua Sha facials–stay tuned for the embarrassing video in which I scrape a spoon across my face to increase blood flow and squash wrinkles nobody can see but me!
I came away from our show and sniff session with a few goodies I’ll review more later, and a whole lot of new knowledge. Did you know carrot seed is one of the most powerful anti aging ingredients? Or that rose and geranium essential oils make you feel more beautiful? Who needs cake when you’ve got rose oil? Am I right?
This Oakland grown brand is just waiting to make it’s way to your stocking this holiday season. It’s already wormed its way into my heart (and onto my face). Who’s next?
Peace. Love. and Bobby Pins.
