Halloween can wreak havoc on your skin. Whether it’s the Monster Mash, too many El Diablos, or a week’s worth of parties in makeup from Halloween City, your skin is wrecked.
Don’t cry over sad skin, here’s your guide to skin revival.
First step to skin revival: makeup removal.
Getting your Halloween makeup off, is often as trying as getting it on. Whether you’re covered in blood and latex or glitter and lashes, proper removal will save time and save skin.
Instead of traditional cleanser, try removing makeup with a cleansing oil. Most party makeup is grease based, so instead of drying your skin out with surfactant heavy soaps, remove oil with oil!
Don’t have any cleansing oil on hand, and not ready to invest? Instead use some coconut oil, jojoba oil, or vitamin E oil on a cotton round to remove your ghoulish face paint.
Removal could take several tries, but don’t get discouraged–slow and steady makeup removal leaves skin much happier than quick and dirty exfoliation. Skin will be less irritated, less prone to post-Halloween breakouts, and much softer.
Second step to skin revival: hydration.
Hydrated skin is happy skin, but the key is to hydration from inside out. So take a few to down some extra water, and maybe some electrolytes to help improve elasticity, fullness, and luster of your skin. Avoid salty foods–even if they help you nurse your post-party hangover, opt for high foods with high water content like fruits and veggies.
Sit back and relax with a hydrating mask, or target area masks to increase collagen and boost cell production to prevent lack luster skin.
Third step to skin revival: moisturizer.
After you’ve taken the time to remove your makeup with an oil cleanser, use a gentle cleanser to collect any excess oil. Now, you’re ready to moisturize. Not only will moisturizer replace any water your skin lost to cake-y drying makeup, it will also increase your skin’s water barrier, keeping skin moist and supple. Try a light weight moisturizer in the morning, and a heavier one at night (as long as you’re not developing any post-Halloween pimples).
Fourth step to skin revival: stop breakouts early.
Charcoal will bind with impurities and pull them from pores without irritating tired skin.
Trust me, you don’t want a tiny pimple turing into this
Now, all that’s missing is some extra sleep, and you’ll be in tip top shape, just in time for November.
